About Us

Who We Are

SouthCare Animal Medical Center is located in the South Hill region of Spokane, Washington, and is a locally owned and operated, full-service animal hospital serving the needs of dogs, cats, and pocket pets. In addition to providing general and emergency care services, we are dedicated to offering multimodal pain management, including therapeutic laser. Other areas of special interest to our doctors include end-of-life/hospice care, palliative care, and consultations.

A portion of our clinic is dedicated solely to the care and comfort of our feline patients. We also regularly volunteer our services and expertise to organizations in our community including Wilderness First Aid for Dogs classes at REI, the Mullan Road Elementary School annual science fair, and food drives for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Dr. Benoit & Dr. Coulson

Our History

Dr. Benoit purchased SouthCare Animal Clinic in February of 1998. In 2007, he built a new modern facility and changed the clinic’s name to SouthCare Animal Medical Center. The new facility opened in September 2007. In the fall of 2015, SouthCare remodeled and expanded, in part, to create a more cat-friendly environment designed to make our feline patients’ visits more comfortable. At the end of 2021, Dr. Benoit retired and passed the torch onto Dr. Suzanne Coulson. Dr. Coulson has been with SouthCare since 2002, and is the Managing DVM where she continues to support our team and our mission.

Our Doctors and Staff

Our doctors and staff are the reason why we are able to offer the high level of quality care and customer service our clients have come to expect. The accumulated experience of our veterinarians exceeds more than 70 years, an average of 18 years of experience each. We also employ experienced licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs), one of whom is always available during each shift. Just like our veterinarians, our LVTs are dedicated to providing quality care our patients can depend on, and work tirelessly to remain up-to-date on the latest advancements in veterinary medicine, care, and technology.

Each of our doctors is a member of the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an online community of more than 53,000 veterinarians, which allows them to access the most up-to-date methods of treatment, information, and resources from a variety of specialists in any veterinary field from across the nation and even the world.
